The University of Excellence Hamburg is a central player within Science City and is characterized by cutting-edge research in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology and Data Science . Two of the university's four clusters of excellence are anchored here: "CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter" and "Quantum Universe". The cross-sectional areas of research, teaching, transfer, research infrastructure and internationalization come together at this location and develop their synergetic effect.

Innovating and cooperating for a sustainable future in a digital age

Research centers such as the HCDS (Hub of Computing and Data Science), the ZBH (Center for Bioinformatics), the CDCS (Center for Data and Computing in Natural Science) and the CoSy.Bio (Institute for Computational Systems Biology) have their home here and are dedicated to innovative, socially relevant topics in the fields of life sciences, computer science and natural sciences.

A look into the future

In addition to the new research center for experimental physics, which will focus on particle, astro and mathematical physics (HAFUN), the planned lecture hall center and learning center form the heart of the excellent teaching and learning infrastructure in this dynamically growing district of science. In the future, around 5,000 students will benefit from further research, learning and teaching buildings currently being planned.

"In Science City, we have infrastructures and opportunities for cooperation that are unique in Europe. We are already a world leader in physics and climate research, and there is also a great deal of potential in the fields of artificial intelligence, quantum computing, life sciences and medicine."
