Science and research
Today, Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld already stands for cutting-edge scientific research in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, medicine and pharmacology. With world-leading accelerator-based X-ray light sources such as the European XFEL and FLASH X-ray lasers, the PETRA III synchrotron radiation source and other top-class research facilities, the fundamentals of matter are being deciphered. At the same time, the research findings are being applied to issues such as health, digitalization, AI and the development of sustainable materials. In the coming years, a new generation of science buildings will be created for excellent, often interdisciplinary work. The existing structures will be expanded into a sustainable campus with a high quality of stay.
Economy and innovation
At Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld , Hamburg is expanding its profile as a future-oriented production and work location. Connected to the research campus, a unique environment for innovation and transfer is being created: here, companies from research-based start-ups to established names can work in a specially tailored, scientifically connected environment.
Living and living
At the same time, Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld is a vibrant neighborhood. Thousands of new apartments in various forms are being built in the 125-hectare urban space, which are open to researchers, teachers and students as well as everyone else. There will also be places for education and care, sport and leisure as well as local amenities.
Leisure and mobility
The Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld is connected in many ways to the historic Volkspark Altona and other landscape axes. A dedicated S-Bahn station is part of the planning.
By the 2040s, a new part of Hamburg will have emerged that is far more than the sum of its parts: At Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld , people are coming together to develop and implement ideas for a better life tomorrow.
