The Institute of Quantum Physics (IQP) uses laser light for the targeted observation, control and manipulation of matter. Five experimental and three theoretical research groups are investigating the quantum properties of light and matter. The institute is an international leader in the research areas of laser development for squeezed and entangled light, gravitational wave detection, ultracold quantum gases and Bose-Einstein condensates.
The IQP is closely involved in the Clusters of Excellence "CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter" and "Quantum Universe". Research at the IQP contributes to a fundamental understanding of quantum physics, which is relevant for the prediction of material properties such as superconductors and precise sensors.
