Light & Schools on the research campus in Science City

The House of Teaching is home to the physics practical course for advanced students and the "Light & Schools" physics school laboratory. Students and pupils are in direct contact with researchers and learn first-hand how, for example, the coldest atoms in the world are produced.

The Haus der Lehre is a unique place of learning away from the classroom and offers state-of-the-art experiments that provide insights into the quantum nature of light and matter. For example, holograms can be created or matter can be moved with light - these "optical tweezers" were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2018. The House of Teaching is integrated into the cutting-edge research of the Cluster of Excellence "CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter" and won the 2020 Building of the Year Award, which was presented by the Hamburg Association of Architects and Engineers (AIV).

The aim is to convey enthusiasm and understanding for natural sciences to students and pupils.
