Next Saturday, June 1, 2024, Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld will open its doors for the first time from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and invites all Hamburg residents to attend. Around 200 program items from research facilities, institutions, companies, district initiatives and associations will present science and urban development in an understandable, entertaining and guaranteed fun way. Explore the new science district in the west of the city!
On Science City Day, we open the doors to the future for you: experience the fascination of science, experiments and super research facilities around the Bahrenfeld campus - and get to know even more projects and participants around the Science City Infocenter at Albert-Einstein-Ring who are helping to shape the district with their lively ideas.
Karen Pein, Senator for Urban Development and Housing: "Science City Day is a great opportunity for everyone in Hamburg to take a look behind the scenes of science and urban development and find out more about the current status of Science City development. I would be delighted if many people took advantage of this opportunity and came to Bahrenfeld on June 1."
Dr. Andreas Kleinau, CEO of Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld GmbH: "From the very beginning, Science City has been designed with the entire neighborhood in mind. To this end, we have developed numerous formats for communication and participation since 2020. Science City Day offers another building block in this offering with the City Mile: In addition to municipal institutions, 17 initiatives and associations will be presenting their offerings on the history of the location, neighborhood, culture and much more."
What you can expect:
How can you read 4,000-year-old sealed cuneiform tablets without opening them? Why does chocolate become huge in a vacuum? How do electrons keep going in a circular accelerator? And what should the science city of the future look like? The program on offer on Science City Day is extremely varied and suitable for both adults and children. At talks, guided tours, science slams and stage shows (including The Physicists and Checker Julian), visitors can experience experiments, look over the shoulders of researchers at work and gain exclusive insights behind the scenes of large-scale research facilities.
On and around the Bahrenfeld research campus and at Albert-Einstein-Ring 8-10.
Experience experiments up close, look over the shoulders of researchers at work and take part in activities yourself - on Science City Day you can immerse yourself in the district's vision of the future and spend a day full of experiences. Children are just as welcome at Science City Day as adults!
All events are free of charge and registration is not required.
