Curtain up for science": The opening of the "Lighthouse" exhibition and event center will allow the world's largest X-ray laser to be experienced by a wide audience. The interactive exhibition in the Lighthouse will be open to the public for the first time on this day. Visitors of all ages will be able to experience the functionality and purpose of the globally unique system in numerous interactive exhibits.
The central element of the exhibition is a model of the 3.4-kilometre-long facility, which begins on the campus of the German Electron Synchotron (DESY ) in Hamburg Bahrenfeld and ends in the experimental hall of the European XFEL in Schenefeld . Other interactive exhibits and display boards provide an insight into the research carried out there and its potential applications.
At the same time, guests can explore the new Lighthouse building. From its opening on November 20, the building will host changing exhibitions and regular events, lectures and shows. These will offer visitors of all ages exciting access to science and research.
In addition to an event hall and auditorium, the Lighthouse is also home to the brand new "Xcool Lab". In two state-of-the-art class laboratories for physics and molecular biology, school classes will be able to carry out exciting experiments independently under the guidance of the Xcool Lab team.(book here)
