More than 70 people came to the trotting track in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld last Saturday, October 7, to contribute their local expertise and learn more about the competitive dialog on the districts at Volkspark .

An important goal of the participation event was to find a common understanding of the procedure, the task and the process, to enable personal exchange between citizens and the planning teams and to support the latter in approaching the area and sensitizing them to certain topics.

Following the welcome address by Dr. Andreas Kleinau (Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld GmbH), Michael Rink (Department of Urban Development and Housing) and Corinna Klimas (Department of Science, Research, Equality and Districts) and basic information on the further course of events, all six planning teams had the opportunity to briefly introduce themselves.
The so-called free dialog format then began, in which the participants were able to talk directly to the planners at six planning team stations and in a speed dating format. The Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld GmbH team was represented with its own station, where it provided information about the urban development area and the competition brief and answered questions.

In the afternoon, the topics discussed at the tables were presented by the planning teams.

The thematic summary of the suggestions and tips are compiled in this documentation: [LINK to the brochure "Quartiere am Volkspark - Science City Werkstätten"]

The district delegation, which accompanies the entire competitive dialog, also took part in the public kick-off event and exchanged ideas with the planning teams and neighbors. In addition to the public events, the six district delegates also take part in the non-public events during the process and advise the selection committee in their role as experts.

What happens next? The planning teams are now in the working phase and have until the beginning of December to draw up their designs for the districts at Volkspark . The first committee meeting will take place in the first quarter of 2024. Following the selection of the participating planning offices for the second processing phase, the competition entries will be exhibited and explained to the public on site. Comments and remarks will be incorporated into the revision notes in addition to the panel's comments. The winning design will be presented following the final committee meeting (summer 2024). At this stage, the public can still make comments and suggestions that will be relevant for the further development of the functional plan, planned for the period 2024 to 2025.

Information on the next public participation dates will be provided in due course on the website sciencecity.hamburg.de.
