DESY is one of the world's leading accelerator centers. With DESY's large-scale facilities, researchers explore the microcosm in all its diversity - from the interplay of the smallest elementary particles to the behavior of novel nanomaterials and the vital processes that take place between biomolecules. The accelerators and the detection instruments that DESY develops and builds are unique tools for research: they generate the strongest X-ray light in the world, bring particles to record energies and open completely new windows into the universe.

This makes DESY not only a magnet for more than 3,000 international researchers from over 40 nations every year, but also a sought-after partner in national and international collaborations. Committed young researchers find an exciting, interdisciplinary environment at DESY . The research center offers attractive training for a variety of professions. In order to advance new, socially relevant technologies and promote innovation, DESY cooperates with industry and business. This also benefits the metropolitan regions of the two locations Hamburg and Zeuthen near Berlin.

DESY is a research center of the Helmholtz association, the largest scientific organization in Germany.

" DESY and the University of Hamburg have been conducting world-class research in the Bahrenfeld district for over 60 years and many 1,000 researchers from Germany, Europe and all over the world visit DESY's fantastic facilities to gain new insights here. Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld will significantly strengthen links between excellent science and technology development with the economy and society and also offer a modern, diverse and very lively environment for pupils, students and everyone else."
