The Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter (MPSD) investigates the structure and properties of matter on atomic length scales and ultrashort time scales in the femtosecond and attosecond range. To this end, researchers use extremely powerful lasers developed at the MPSD as well as the unique variety of high-power radiation sources on campus.

Complex simulations and modeling support their experimental work. The Institute's basic research provides new insights into the structures and properties of these materials.

"The MPSD is very pleased about the new Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld. It will further strengthen Hamburg's world-class research infrastructure, attracting scientists and students from all over the world. We look forward to working with many new scientific partners in the future."
