The Senate Chancellery works for the Senate and the First Mayor. It is divided into four offices: State Office, Press Office, Office for IT and Digitization and Planning Staff with the Senate Office.
The Senate Chancellery also includes the Hamburg State Representation in Berlin and the Hanse-Office in Brussels, which is managed jointly with Schleswig-Holstein . As the focal point for government policy, the Senate Chancellery oversees and coordinates the work of the Senate. It supports the First Mayor in his official duties. The Senate Chancellery plans the government program, implements the Mayor's political guidelines, handles investment planning and coordinates the specialist authorities.
It is also responsible for events in the town hall and state visits, and maintains international relations. Its tasks also include informing the public about current political work. Hamburg has a state representation in Berlin, which is part of the Senate Chancellery. Like all federal states, Hamburg is a member of the Bundesrat and can therefore represent its interests in federal politics.
In addition, Hamburg runs the Hanse-Office in Brussels together with Schleswig-Holstein . As an interface between northern Germany and Brussels, Hanse-Office provides information on current European policy issues. Hamburg's interests are conveyed to the EU and thus influence European decisions. The Plenipotentiary to the Federal Government, the EU and Foreign Affairs is responsible for these tasks.

Science, innovation and city life
From the very beginning, the German government was indirectly involved in the realization of the project via the German Electron Synchrotron DESY , as it provides 90% of the funding for the research center.
In the meantime, 14 municipal, scientific and private institutions are cooperating under the leadership of the Senate Chancellery to make the new district attractive for all citizens, researchers, students, start-ups and companies.
The excellent research capacities in the west of Hamburg will increase the innovative strength of the location on a regional, national and international level.
