DESY is one of the world's leading accelerator centers. Researchers use the DESY large-scale facilities to explore the microcosm in all its diversity - from the interplay of the smallest elementary particles to the behavior of novel nanomaterials and the vital processes that take place between biomolecules. The accelerators and detection instruments that DESY develops and builds are unique tools for research: they generate the strongest X-ray light in the world, bring particles to record energies and open completely new windows into the universe.

3,000 researchers from 40 nations

This makes DESY not only a magnet for more than 3,000 international researchers from over 40 nations every year, but also a sought-after partner in national and international collaborations. Committed young researchers find an exciting, interdisciplinary environment at DESY . The research center offers attractive training for a variety of professions. In order to advance new, socially relevant technologies and promote innovation, DESY cooperates with industry and business. This also benefits the metropolitan regions of the two locations Hamburg and Zeuthen near Berlin.
