Water is omnipresent and of particular importance in numerous processes, from the Earth's water cycle for weather and climate to microscopic processes in biology. In many ways, water behaves "differently" from other substances, and many of its microscopic properties are still not fully understood.
Prof. Amann-Winkel's research group investigates water and ice under extreme conditions, such as very low temperatures or high pressure. The aim of her research is to understand the origin of anomalies in water. In her lecture, she talks about her research, including her work at the European XFEL X-ray laser.
