Interim presentation of the designs for the "Quartiere am Volkspark" meets with great interest.
Over 100 people attended the exhibition opening and presentation of the designs on Thursday, February 15, 2024. More than 500 people took the opportunity to view the designs in the exhibition on the following days.
Background
In fall 2023, six planning teams (urban design/open space) began developing concepts for the "Quartiere am Volkspark". The framework conditions and tasks for all teams were defined in advance by Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld GmbH in consultation with representatives of the authorities and districts as well as other experts in what is known as the invitation to tender. The comments and ideas from the preliminary public participation process were incorporated into the brief.
At the beginning of February 2024, the committee - consisting of experts and representatives of the citizens and district - discussed the designs of the six teams and decided which three designs should be further developed in a second processing phase. The drafts were reviewed in advance by experts, including the district delegation. Their comments and suggestions were made available to the committee as a basis for evaluation.
Presentation and exhibition
From February 15, 2024, interested citizens had the opportunity to get an idea of the three selected designs. As part of the opening event, an introduction was given to the planning process - known as the "Quartiere am Volkspark" competitive dialog - and the content of the brief was explained. The three teams Cobe A/S, Karres en Brands + ADEPT and Mandaworks + LOLA then presented their designs and explained their ideas and concepts to the neighborhood and other interested parties.
During the subsequent three-day exhibition, interested parties were able to view the designs in detail, watch the recorded presentations by the planning teams and engage in discussions with the Science City team.
In the form of comment cards with the questions "What do you (particularly) like about the design?" and "Where do you see room for improvement?", visitors were also able to record their impressions in writing. The many conversations that took place and the evaluation of the comments showed that The opinions on the drafts are very diverse. Some of the comments are similar, others are completely different.
Feedback collected from the comment cards, along with questions and insights from the direct interaction with participants at the event on October 7 and the exhibition opening on February 15, can provide the teams with an understanding of the overall sentiment, aiding them in refining their designs. Comments that align with the mandatory requirements can be integrated into the teams' conceptual development. Are you interested in seeing the feedback from the local community?

Outlook
The three planning teams now have time to further develop their designs in line with the panel's recommendations before the winning design is chosen at the second panel meeting in July 2024. There will be another public event at the end of the competitive dialog. The district delegation will accompany the competition until the end of the planning process.
The event was supported by Urban Catalyst.
